Tom is one of a few in the business who truly understands where clients are coming from because he was the client, responsible for all facets of planning and executing 12 events a year. After planning parties and events at the corporate level for nine years, Tom founded the company July 7, 1977.
Tom’s many years on the corporate planning side gives him an unusual understanding of the challenges faced by those wanting to make an impact with guests, customers and employees. His methods proved to be right on target as his company immediately enjoyed success coordinating corporate parties, special events, and weddings.
As demand for Tom’s expertise grew, so did the company’s services. One of the first people to be hired was his future wife, Nancy, who quickly established herself as one of the premier party planners in the area. Soon, after presenting some parties for General Motors, the Wallers expanded again. They became “Serious About Fun,” a group that would attend to all the details needed for a successful event, so the host could sit back and actually enjoy their guests and their compliments.
Soon, clients were reporting record turnouts for the Wallers’ events and happily relating guest feedback like, “that was the greatest party in our history.” Clients got hooked on success and started asking for more unique decorations and new ideas that were “fun and different” for their next successful event.
The Wallers continued to demonstrate their special gift that led people to stop dead in their tracks as they entered the event room and exclaim, “Wow! This is different. This is going to be fun!” Guests would inevitably mingle, mix, laugh and play together, resulting in lots of fond memories and anticipation of events to come.
Another turning point came in 1980 when General Motors asked them to astonish a group of hard–to-entertain guests who always left the event right after dinner. The Wallers created a one-of-a-kind experience. The guests stayed until 4 a.m. and still talk about it today!
Planning and executing “talk of the town” corporate events became the trademark for the company. Everyone from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies were seeking out the Wallers to create the perfect party.
The Wallers were honored when Special Events Magazine recognized them for producing one of the top 20 events in the world.
Then the Wallers began to see a change in the type of parties that people wanted. People were no longer satisfied with ordinary “cocktail chatter,” music, and dancing on a special dance floor. They wanted new experiences, new games, and even new entertainment.
With a growing staff of creative set designers, artists, carpenters, florists, lighting and sound technicians, the company began to offer state-of-the-art “theme parties.” After doing 135 different themes ranging from Interactive Murder Mysteries to Casino Nights, it became apparent that the 10 variations of “Las Vegas Nights” they had created were runaway best sellers. They blew away the other 125 themes in the three most critical measures: 1) attendance; 2) guest retention and participation; and 3) rave reviews.
So in 1989, they decided to specialize in creating perfect casino parties.
